Pires: France needs to sign up Arsenal manager

Robert Pires once played for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. Now the French midfielder would like to play for Le Boss again – only not in North London.

Pires, who has gone on to success at Villarreal (unlike some other castoffs), said the French FA should pay whatever it takes to bring Wenger into the mix.

Arsene Wenger is a gentleman and his qualities would have a positive effect on the French national side. He is a class act. Of course, he is Arsenal’s manager, but you never know what could happen. If money is made available by the French FA then anything is possible. The key is knowing whether he has the desire to leave London.

The French already have a manager – Raymond Domenech – and Pires has an opinion on him too.

Right now I am very worried about what the future holds for France. I don’t want Domenech to stay in the job. France’s young players no longer have any respect for their seniors and the coach is solely to blame.

While I don’t doubt that Wenger could be successful at any level, I fail to see why he’d want to leave a great club where he has had an everlasting impact on for a national team job where his powers are limited.

What do you think?
